There’s a few things you should know before you commit to being a member of the Block. Please read through the following information carefully.
- You must be 13 years or older to register.
- The Block will not tolerate any manuscript that is written with the intent to spread hate. We can tell the difference between fiction and manifested intolerance.
- We understand that no writer is perfect, but we want to keep the Block as clean and professional as possible. If your manuscript contains some errors, we’ll contact you regarding our editing service. You are not obligated to accept an edit! We will never edit your writing without your permission.
- We will not publish your writings anywhere else, but you are more than welcome to do so. They belong to you, not us.
- We reserve the right to remove any writing we deem unsatisfactory to the standards of the Block.
Becoming an Author
There are two links that will take you to the registration page: on the sidebar to your right and on the navigation above the content on this website. Choose a username and a password; hit submit. Shortly after completion of this simple form, you should receive an email with a temporary password. Login and be prepared. This is where the fun begins!
Logging in will take you to your dashboard, which is just a silly word for the front page of the back end of the site. You’ll see a couple of options, but the only one you need to worry about is “Write.” That’s right; you can publish immediately!
If you’re familiar with Wordpress, then you’ll know there’s lots of little things you can do to organize your writing into the website. All you have to worry about is the categories option. You’ll find this below the textbox. Click the checkbox(es) that best corresponds with your manuscript. If you’ve written a fictional romance, for example, click “Fiction” and “Romance.”
Are we missing a genre? Contact us or email Elyse at elyse@elysex.net! If we agree the genre should be included, it will be added.
Although it is optional, we would appreciate if you would, before publishing any writings, make an introduction post. You will find a category made specifically for introductions in the categories section.
Editing Service
We are our own worst critics, and, chances are, you’re Roger Eberting yourself a little too much. We understand. After all, we’re writers too! That’s why the Block offers an editing service. If you think your manuscript needs a quick duct tape and glue, we’ll be more than happy to do it for you. All you have to do is contact us or email Elyse at elyse@elysex.net. She’ll hand your manuscript over to one of our editors.
Before using the editing service, know this: We will never edit anything without your permission! If you agree to an edit, you will be the first to see the final product. If you approve, you can publish. If you do not approve, we’ll find a way to work your manuscript into something you deem publishable. This is your story, not ours.
