Right about now, thousand of people are sitting on the edge of their seats awaiting my next blog. Do not deny it; you’re one of them, aren’t you?
Unfortunately for you, dear Readers, I have yet to right anything fictional. That is not to say that I haven’t tried. Because I have. A lot. However, I’ve been in a rut that can only be described using a term most reviled: Writer’s Block. *cringes* Horrifying.
In some desperate attempt to relieve myself of this funk, I begged and pleaded with my stepfather to order me two reference books: The Elements of Style, Fourth Edition by William Strunk Jr. and E.B. White (of Charlotte’s Web fame) and No Plot? No Problem!: A Low-Stress, High-Velocity Guide to Writing a Novel in 30 Days by Chris Baty (of NaNoWriMo fame). My stepfather did me one better; he took me to Borders. *drools* I was able to purchase them both.
Although I’m in the middle of a (horrible, awful, terrible) novel already, I couldn’t wait to open Elements of Style. My limited experience with English has afforded me little time with fellow writers, but I’ve been told by those I’ve met that Style is the bible for writing. I needed to read it. Also, at 87 pages (included the afterword, excluding the glossary and index), the task wasn’t daunting enough for me to procrastinate.

Elyse was born on a cattle ranch in North Dakota to Jerry, a tap-dancer, and Donna, a professional yodeler. Despite her distractingly enormous nose, she quickly soared to the top of the 80s charts with dance hits like "Eat My Taco, Paco" and "Groovy Green Grapes." Her fame, however, was short lived, and she retired penniless to Florida, where she works as a janitor in Disney World.
