A Political Conversation
[After watching a Hillary Clinton commercial:]
Me: Who’re you voting for?
Mom: Barack Obama.
Me: I’m voting for Barack, and not just because he’s good looking.
Mom: He just makes sense to me…
[A minute later:]
Mom: … and he’s good looking.
Me: Yeah, he is!
Meme after jump!

I have an issue I’d like to discuss, but it warrants a disclaimer. This rant is not directed at anyone who is close to me. So, if you comment here and think this is about you, think again. None of my friends annoy me enough to fit into this category. Besides, I’ve been guilty of thinking this way once or twice myself. Anyone guess what I’m talking about?
Blogging is not a popularity contest! You are not the amount of comments you get. You are not the amount of people who link to your website. You are not the amount of hits you get (unique or otherwise).
Let me put this into simpler terms:
You = Human
Blog = Not Human
Your words might be the driving force behind a blog, but it’s not you! Your words might reflect who you are, but they aren’t you!
Stop acting like it’s the end of the world when someone doesn’t comment on your website. Hell, half of my friends have been waiting for me to comment on their website for years. Do I read their blogs? Yes. I just don’t have the motivation or energy to comment. Does that mean I love them any less? No. It just means I’m lazy.
Does nobody read your blog? Get over it! It’s probably not because of you personally. The cliques of the internet aren’t coming together and saying, “Man. That chick/dude really sucks. Let’s not ever read her/his blog.” You’re probably just not putting yourself out there enough. All too often, bloggers expect readers/commenters just to flock to their blogs. Well, they won’t. You have to be proactive.
Seriously. Blogging is not a popularity contest. Stop basing your level of self-esteem on what’s happening with your blog. Step away from the computer, take a look in the mirror, and realize that there’s more to you than a few lines of HTML.

*raises hand* Yes, it may seem a little sad that I get enjoyment out of someone’s pain, but, let’s face it, Britney’s breakdown has been beyond amusing. From going to rehab to leaving rehab to going back to rehab to being committed, I can’t help but wonder why I am so utterly fascinated by this woman’s plight.
Explanation #1
I feel better about myself knowing this celebrity is a real fuck up. Flawed perfection means perfection doesn’t exist; therefore, I don’t have to strive to be perfect.
Explanation #2
My dislike of Britney’s music led to a dislike of Britney led to amusement at her expense. Petty as it is, I’ve always gotten a slight enjoyment out of watching those I dislike commit epic fail. Who hasn’t? If you raise your hand, you lie!
Explanation #3
Must. Laugh. At. Bitch. With. Nasty. Poon.
Whatever the reason, I refuse to apologize for making fun of this celebretard. I have come to understand that she has been diagnosed (officially, I believe) as bipolar, and bipolar disorder does somewhat impair the decision-making process. However, it does not render the afflicted incompetent. She still had room for rational cognition, and she failed to use it.
My point: she had choices. She made some bad ones, and she has nobody to blame but herself. So, I wish her the best of luck with whatever treatment she ends up with, but, in the meantime, I’m going to point and laugh.
And I’m probably going to burn in hell.
